Fly Fishing Mexico Flats and Arrecife Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit by MENDOZAFLYSHOP.COM from Mendoza Fly Shop Videos on Vimeo.

First of all I want to thank you for having trusted our company to make this beautiful trip to the Caribbean in search of Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon!

Xcalak is a paradisiacal destination, still rustic and very natural although of little infrastructure and far from any urban center, therefore we will try to provision ourselves before our trip so that nothing is lacking. It will be a pleasure to help you whenever you need it ...

We will be at your disposal to advise you on what you need and we will also be in Xcalak to share your fishing week and make sure everything works correctly.

It is a pleasure to assist you and do not hesitate to contact us !!!

6-day program Full fishing of Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon at Xcalak Mexico 2018 - "All Inclusive"
OPEN RESERVATIONS 2018 - Whatsapp +5492615335001 Pablo Rodrigo Perez

We designed a "All Inclusive" program, especially for saltwater and inexperienced fishermen who want to fish seen, wading long white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, also fishing in enclosed lagoons and mangroves.

Xcalak is one of the last virgin destinations of the Maya coast, bordering Belize to the south, allows us access to the exclusive Chetumal Bay, hectares of flats or low waters, lagoons and reefs to enjoy incredible fishing days, this destination is Classified as one of the best world for fly fishing, being one of the places with lower fishing pressure, compared to the well known Bay of Ascension.

Species to Fish
Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon and Sea Bass, among others, here you can look for your great or super Grand Slam of the Caribbean.

Punta de Xcalak, has a population of 252 inhabitants on the Caribbean coast of Mexico in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, state of Quintana Roo. Located in the small cape called Punta Xcalak, it is located in one of the last virgin corners of the Mexican Caribbean located at the southern end of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. The Mesoamerican Reef System is the largest coral reef in the Western Hemisphere and the second largest coral reef in the world, extending over approximately 1,000 km along the Caribbean coast of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras.

Destination airport: Cancun - Mexico, ideally we recommend to travel a day before to not be adjusted in the arrival times of the international flights, this way you can stay in Cancun as it offers a great hotel offer, and the next day we will pass your hotel To look for it in the morning and thus embark on the picturesque trip to Xcalak, the route is tourist towards Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Mahahual, it is a relaxed trip of about four hours making some stop to stretch the legs, toilets or to take some refreshment . For the return we recommend to stay again in Cancun and the next day to take a flight already rested and with usual times.

"EL BONEFISH"

bonefish mendoza fly shop

In relation to "weight - power" the Bonefish or Macaví as they call it in Spanish is the fastest and strongest fish we can fish, usually we will look for it in lagoons, low waters connected with the sea, or wading beaches, usually walks Looking for their food in shallow water, and shrimp will be their greatest attraction, even though crabs are part of their diet. It is very hydrodynamic format, great tail and strong fins to achieve much speed in its race, we could expect to fish bonefish of between 600 grams and 3 kilos being usual the ones of 600 to 800 grams.
On an average day, fishermen who are looking for bonefish and have good casting and presentation with the appropriate flies could fish between 5 and 10 of them.
Scale on difficulty from 1 to 10 Bonefish = 05

“PERMIT”

PERMIT MENDOZA FLY SHOP

This is the star or difficult figurine we could say ... it is the most complex species to find and to fish, therefore there is the fever of the permit, it is an extremely suspicious fish, herratic in its line of feeding, you never know which way it will take While it feeds, it can be straight, in the form of sig sag, or as you wish, the important thing is to always take a course that will make our task more difficult ... Usually we will look for it in lagoons, connected low waters With the sea, your favorite diet or diet is the crab, even though you also eat shrimp, you are looking for your food in shallow water, once the lo / s guide detects the launch, it should usually be very accurate to some 30 cm in front of your mouth, the strips should be long and slow, or as the guide indicates them, and if everything goes well and we are illuminated we will get the bite of a Permit.
We could expect to fish a Permit or Palometa of between 600 grams to 8 kilos, being usual the ones of 600 grams to 4 kilos.
On an average day the fishermen who are looking for Permit and have good casting and presentation with the appropriate flies could fish between 0 and 3 of them.

“TARPON”

baby tarpon mendoza fly shop

There is a distinction for the Tarpon, since boys are called "Baby" and big "Big", the latter without hesitation is the largest fish we could fish in this excursion.

The tarpon or tarpon as they are called in Spanish, are very strong in their fight, with bony jaws and very hard, make us tremble to see them ... are very determined when they want to eat, in Xcalak there are two very marked areas where we can find them, The Baby Tarpon we will look for in lagoons with Mangroves, this is where they grow and the style of fishing is done from a small boat, with equipment 8 or 9 and floating lines, it is very fun to have the first contact with the tarpon in this way to Understand his movements, his fierce way of getting a hook nailed while jumping and all the tricks he will have to get out of our fly.

The Big Tarpon, we could find them in the Arrecife, enter from the sea to feed on small fish or shrimp, fishing with equipment 10 to 12 and lines of float, the difficulties to remove them are the same mentions of the Baby Tarpon, although to these They are added their power, size and as additional the possible cuts of line, leader or Backing with the friction of the Reef, it is very normal to lose lines so I suggest to at least bring two of float for these teams per fisherman.

We could expect to catch a Baby Tarpon of between 1 and 8 kilos, being usual those of 2 to 3 kilos.
In an average day the fishermen who are dedicated to look for Tarpon and have good casteo and to get nailed with the line and not with the cane, could fish between 0 and 3 of them.
Scale on difficulty from 1 to 10 Baby Tarpon = 8

We could expect to catch a Big Tarpon of between 20 and 70 kilos, being usual the ones of 30 to 40 kilos.
On an average day the fishermen who are looking for Tarpon and have good casting with heavy equipment and manage to nail with the line and not with the rod, could fish between 0 and 2 of them.
Scale in difficulty from 1 to 10 Big Tarpon = 9
